Anterior Hip Replacement
A lot has happened since the first hip replacements 20 years ago. Refined surgical techniques, improved materials, and a better understanding of how joints work have led to advances in joint replacements, which are now available for hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, and finger joints. At Tucson Orthopaedic Institute, hip replacement surgery can be accomplished with two approaches – anterior (the new method) or posterior (the traditional method).
Anterior hip replacement is a minimally-invasive technique that will benefit you in several ways, including smaller incisions, reduced from the traditional eight inches to just under four inches. As a result, you heal more quickly and experience less pain.
You can view more videos about hip replacement on our YouTube channel.
Direct Superior Total Hip Replacement
Direct Superior is a muscle sparing approach to the hip that spares the Iliotibial band (IT Band) reducing post op pain and a more rapid recovery than traditional approaches to the hip. Specialized instruments allow easier retraction of soft tissue as well as bone preparation through the reduced soft tissue exposure.
Outpatient Procedures
Outpatient joint replacement is an option for certain patients who are otherwise healthy and prefer to go home following their joint replacement. It is a potential option for total hip, total knee and partial knee replacements. Patients enjoy the experience of a smaller facility, faster mobilization and decreased exposure to a traditional in-patient hospital environment. Ask your provider whether this option is available in your case.
